Originally a virtuosic etude for piano by Saint-Saens, the Caprice (d'apres l'etude en forme de valse), Op. 52, No. 6 was transcribed and arranged for violin and piano by the great violinist Eugune Ysaye. As the extended title suggests, the piece is in 3/4 time, and employs many advanced techniques, including left-hand pizzicato and extended passages in double-stops (including octaves). A true showpiece, the Caprice really gives the violinist an opportunity to exhibit a wide range of technical skills. This edition contains markings by Ivan Galamian.
